Welcome to the May newsletter from The Writers Workshop - your regular update from our team. We may be based in a small workshop space in Orchard Square Sheffield but we have grand ambitions to help writers from across the country and indeed the globe to realise their writing dreams.

We’re a community and have three new membership tiers available to suit different needs, but you’re always welcome to simply drop-in to our workshops and events. We’re striving to be as inclusive as possible whilst also making sure that our fabulous associate team of writers, editors, facilitators and consultants make a living doing what they love to do.

Welcome to our newest associate, Tom Juniper

The Writers Workshop is proud of its growing pool of associates — professional writers who are committed to sharing their skills and experience with our members. The newest associate is Tom Juniper, a self-professed nerd of poetry form, from the sonnet to the sestina! If you want to know what a sestina is, join Tom for a workshop on May 4th and you can also hone your performance skills with Tom before our live literature night, Sounds About Write.

Associate Groups

The Writers Workshop is also delighted to be providing a platform and space for Associate Groups to meet. Our first Associate Group is Sheffield Authors. Formed in 2015, Sheffield Authors membership is open to anyone who self-identifies as a Sheffield Author. They aim to celebrate and showcase Sheffield's writers, provide support and advice to fellow authors through the network, workshops and website.

We’ve also welcomed Sheffield Novelists to the fold. Run by our associate, Anne Grange, Sheffield Novelists provides a space for emerging novelists to network and share works in progress.

Anne will be hosting a Novelists Meet-up on Saturday May 6th. It’s for anyone who writes long fiction.

New - Online Writers Cafe!

If you struggle to write alone and need some accountability, our new Online Writers Cafe is for you. It’s not always possible to meet up with friends in real world cafes but our online space enables you to write alongside others from the comfort of your own home.

Coming up…

We have a wide range of workshops and Meet-ups both online and in-person at our lovely space in Orchard Square in Sheffield. Whether your genre is poetry or fiction, or if you’re just writing for pleasure and wellbeing, we have something for you. Here are a few of them!

Writing Workouts explore the craft of fiction and inspire new writing. Each session, participants limber up with creative exercises that get your brain firing, before getting down to longer exercises that allow ideas to flow. Join Rosie and Lorna for a Writing Workout on May 8th and May 22nd.

Beverley is also running regular Grief Writers Meet-ups. The one in May is free for Dying Matters. You can also hear some of our writers read and perform their work at the Samuel Worth Chapel on May 23rd and take part in the exhibition there. Find out more.
