New Writing North
New Writing North is an organisation based in Newcastle upon Tyne that leads the development of creative writing and reading in the North of England.
Established in 1996, it is a charity and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. New Writing North believes that writing talent is everywhere, but that opportunities are not, and works hard to identify talent and create career-changing opportunities for writers from across society.
Their programme includes talent development initiatives such as the Northern Writers' Awards, the annual Durham Book Festival, an award-winning Young Writers programme, and a Writing and Publishing Skills Hub offering educational opportunities for writers and creatives. They also manage major international literary prizes including the David Cohen Prize for Literature and the Gordon Burn Prize.
New Writing North works in partnership with national broadcasters, major publishers, local authorities, and universities across the North of England.
