Our Programming Ethos
The Writers Workshop exists to share the joy and power of creative writing with adults in Sheffield and beyond.
To that end, we are continuously developing a programme that prioritises:
Creativity and fun
Collaboration with our members
Community-building
Diversity and inclusion
Our programme is divided into three strands:
Writing Spark: creative writing either from life or imagination, accessible to beginners and experienced writers alike.
Writing Community: creative writing within particular genres or topics and social events that make connections between members.
Writing Skills: creative writing craft classes for those writing for an audience.
The Writing Spark and Writing Community strands are mainly delivered through a core team of professional members called Associates.
The Writing Skills strand is commissioned by The Writers Workshop in collaboration with our membership community. Workshop and course ideas are pitched to the members and then programmed if there is sufficient interest. Through this initiative, we can bring in writing expertise from different backgrounds and perspectives, from across the region and nation, increasing the diversity of our programme. Our commissioned programme is also key to our sustainability as an arts organisation because it helps us raise vital revenue.
