In this workshop, novelist and short story writer Sally O’Reilly will be looking at the basics of plot development to get you started.
What makes a good plot? How do you develop the action of your story? How does character relate to plot? What is the three act structure? Do all novels have a ‘hero’s journey?’ How does plot keep a reader turning the pages?
We will be looking at examples of strong plots and talking about the key challenges and how to resolve them. Please come ready to talk about a novel that you think has an effective plot, and which you have enjoyed.
Tutor: Sally O’Reilly is a historical-fiction writer. Her most recent book is Hagtale: A Macbeth Origin Story and her work in progress is a counter-factual story set in the Elizabethan era.
